Today Is the Youngest You'll Ever Be

Do you have a dream or something you've always wanted to do?

Maybe you want to speak Japanese more confidently. Maybe you'd like to work in Japan someday. Or perhaps you simply want to enjoy traveling in Japan and communicate with local people.

Many people have these goals, but they often tell themselves:

"I'm too busy with work."

"I'll start when I have more free time."

"Maybe I'm too old to begin now."

If you've ever felt that way, I'd like to share something with you.

Today is the youngest you'll ever be.

Recently, I've been working hard on a new challenge myself.

I'm currently studying to become a Certified Administrative Procedures Legal Specialist (行政書士 Gyoseishoshi), a national qualification in Japan.

A Gyoseishoshi helps people prepare legal documents and assists with various administrative procedures, including visa applications, residency matters, business registration, and contracts.

The reason I decided to pursue this qualification goes back to last year, when I earned my Real Estate Transaction Specialist (宅建士 Takkenshi) license.

I studied during my free time between work and daily life and continued little by little for about five months.

I wasn't able to study for hours every day.

Instead, I simply kept telling myself:

"Today, I'll study for just 30 minutes."

"Today, I'll solve just 10 practice questions."

Those small daily efforts eventually led me to passing the exam.

Now, I use that qualification to help foreigners who are looking for apartments in Japan.

Recently, I've also received inquiries from people living outside Japan.

Many of them ask questions like:

"Can I rent an apartment with my visa?"

"Does my residence status affect my application?"

As I answered these questions, I realized that becoming a Gyoseishoshi would allow me to support my students and clients in even more meaningful ways.

That's why I decided to start studying again.

Learning something new isn't always easy.

But the knowledge you gain can open new career opportunities, help your family, and allow you to support others in ways you never imagined.

That's why I truly believe that learning is never a waste of time.

The same is true for learning Japanese.

Sometimes people tell me,

"I'm too old to learn a new language."

Of course, memory changes as we get older.

But from my experience as a Japanese teacher, I've actually found that adult learners often have incredible strengths.

People with more life experience tend to appreciate learning more deeply. They are highly motivated, patient with themselves, and often discover study methods that work best for them.

Age is not a disadvantage.

One of the happiest moments as a teacher is when my students tell me,

"I'm no longer afraid to speak Japanese with native speakers."

or

"I was able to communicate much more smoothly during my trip to Japan!"

Hearing those words always makes me smile.

No one becomes fluent overnight.

Small efforts, repeated every day, grow into real confidence six months or a year later.

So if you've been thinking,

"I want to learn Japanese, but I just haven't started yet..."

Study for five minutes.

Learn one new word.

Read one short sentence.

Every small step brings you closer to your dream.
